I've ridden the Vulcan 650 a few times. This cruiser's speedometer shows it can hit around 180, but GPS measurements put it at just over 170. The Vulcan S is tuned more for low to mid-range RPMs, and the 650cc twin-cylinder engine starts to sound strained once it hits 8,000 RPM. Last time I went mountain riding with a friend, he had modified the windshield and exhaust, and the speedometer showed a top speed of 185, but the bike felt very unstable at that speed—after all, a cruiser's frame is different from a street bike's. The real fun of this bike lies in the torque burst around 5,000 RPM; it actually accelerates faster from traffic lights than some liter bikes. If you're really after top speed, you might want to check out the Z650 instead.
