What is the Standard Height for Car Low Beam Headlights?

There is no standard regulation specifying the exact height in meters for car low beam headlights, only requirements for the luminous intensity and beam position of headlights. Generally, on level roads, car low beams should illuminate the area 25-35 meters ahead of the vehicle. Below are the regulations regarding car lighting: 1. On roads without central barriers or center lines, drivers should switch to low beams when meeting oncoming vehicles at a distance of 150 meters or more. Low beams should also be used when meeting non-motorized vehicles on narrow roads or bridges. 2. When driving at night on roads without streetlights, under poor lighting conditions, or in low visibility situations such as fog, rain, snow, dust, or hail, vehicles traveling in the same direction should use low beams when following closely behind another vehicle. 3. When passing through sharp curves, slopes, arched bridges, pedestrian crossings, or intersections without traffic signals at night, drivers should alternately switch between high and low beams as a signal. 4. When driving at night on unlit roads at speeds below 30 km/h, low beams may be used; when speeds exceed 30 km/h, high beams may be used. On well-lit roads at night, low beams should be used.
Regarding the height standard for car low beams, I specifically checked the relevant regulations. According to the national standard GB7258, the requirement for low beam illumination height is: the height of the cutoff line at 10 meters in front of the vehicle should not exceed 0.9 times the installation height of the headlight. To be more specific, if your headlight is 70 cm above the ground, the cutoff line at 10 meters away should not exceed 63 cm in height. This setting is mainly to prevent dazzling oncoming drivers while ensuring visibility of the road about 30 meters ahead. During my regular driving, I've noticed that the proper beam height may need slight adjustments when the vehicle's load changes, especially for SUVs which may have their front end lowered by 1-3 cm when fully loaded. It's recommended to recalibrate using the height adjustment knob next to the driver's seat to avoid being penalized by traffic police or compromising driving safety.
