S (Sport) gear is the sports mode of a car. When the gear is shifted to S mode, the transmission can shift freely, but the shifting timing is delayed, keeping the engine at high RPM for a longer time. The car will then move at a lower gear with higher RPM for an extended period, resulting in greater torque output and acceleration. Here are some misconceptions about using S gear: During startup: It is not suitable to use S gear when starting. It can actually hinder speed improvement because, in a 6-speed forward car, staying in 1st or 2nd gear for too long prevents the speed from increasing. Without a heavy load, this only wastes the opportunity for speed gain. At high speeds: Avoid using S gear at high speeds because it will never reach 6th gear. Once S gear exceeds 90 km/h, the engine runs at excessively high RPM, producing unpleasant noise and consuming more fuel.
