What is the reason for the inaccurate fuel gauge in the Sunny?

The inaccurate fuel gauge could be due to an issue with the dashboard or the float, but it has little impact on the vehicle's operation. How the fuel gauge works: The fuel system mainly consists of four parts: the fuel gauge, sensor circuit, variable resistor, and float. When the fuel tank is full, the resistance value of the variable resistor connected to the float decreases, causing the circuit current to reach its maximum. At this point, the fuel gauge needle is at its highest position. As the fuel level decreases, the resistance value of the variable resistor increases accordingly, reducing the circuit current, and the fuel gauge needle drops as well. Location of the fuel gauge: The fuel gauge is generally located directly in front of the driver's position, on the same panel as indicators for water temperature, RPM, and speed. Each gauge is distinguished by a simple icon.

I've repaired many cars before, and inaccurate fuel gauges are quite common. The most frequent issue is a malfunctioning float sensor inside the fuel tank. That thing can sometimes get stuck or rust, leading to incorrect readings. Additionally, if the wiring connectors are loose or aged, causing unstable current, the dashboard will display wrong numbers. There's also the problem with the fuel pump—if it's faulty, it can't send back accurate data. An inaccurate fuel gauge is quite troublesome; you might accidentally run out of fuel and end up stranded on the roadside, which is both costly and unsafe. I recommend first checking the fuse box yourself—sometimes a simple replacement can fix it. If it's more complicated, it's better to visit a professional repair shop for a diagnostic with proper equipment. Don't delay and make things worse.

A friend of mine has been experiencing inaccurate fuel gauge readings, and after some discussion, we realized it might be an issue with the instrument cluster control unit. If the control unit is burnt out or damp, it can mess up signal processing. Additionally, if the sensor in the fuel tank is clogged with debris or severely corroded, it can also interfere with fuel level readings. Poor wiring connections can contribute to this problem too—if the plug isn’t securely connected, the current may fluctuate. An inaccurate fuel gauge is no small matter; if it misleads you into underfilling the tank or running out of fuel midway, it not only disrupts your trip but also wastes time on repairs. You can try DIY fixes like unplugging and cleaning the sensor, but it’s best not to delay—small issues can turn into bigger headaches. Taking it to a reliable repair shop is the smarter move.

Fuel gauge inaccurate? Possible causes include a stuck sensor, loose connector, or faulty instrument chip. When the sensor inside the fuel tank moves improperly, readings fluctuate erratically. Check for secure connections and fuse condition. An inaccurate fuel gauge has significant consequences - wasting money on unnecessary refueling and causing inconvenience. Address this issue promptly without delay.

How to Determine if There is Water in the Fuel Tank?

When engine oil emulsifies, it turns white. You can see the white emulsion by opening the oil filler cap. If this occurs, it is essential to replace the engine oil. Emulsified engine oil will reduce its lubricating performance, which may lead to cylinder scoring when the engine is running.

How to Solve the Issue of Fuel Pump Not Receiving Power?

Faults in the input and output circuits of the fuel injector, caused by voltage fluctuations in the car that burn out the power supply, aging and internal wear of the fuel pump, and clogged spark plugs, among other issues. At the relay, use a jumper wire to connect the power line and the fuel pump's power supply line, then check if there is power at the fuel pump.
