What is the real fuel consumption of the Passat hybrid?
2 Answers
Passat hybrid models have a real fuel consumption of approximately 4.4L/100km. Below are the factors affecting fuel consumption and methods to reduce it: Factors affecting fuel consumption: The driving habits of the driver, road conditions, the weight of items placed in the car, whether the vehicle is in the break-in period, and whether the vehicle receives regular maintenance—all these factors can affect the vehicle's fuel consumption. Methods to reduce fuel consumption: Avoid prolonged idling or low-speed driving, avoid overloading the vehicle and keeping the fuel tank full, avoid using high-viscosity engine oil, and try to control speed with the accelerator rather than the brake.
Having driven the Passat PHEV for over half a year, I must say it's perfect for city commuting. I drive about 60 kilometers daily, and with charging stations at work, the battery usually gets fully charged during the day. I top it up with off-peak electricity at night, and the displayed fuel consumption consistently stays between 1.8-2.2 liters. Last month, I did a test with a full tank and full charge, and the car ran 900 kilometers before the low fuel warning light came on, working out to an actual fuel consumption of just over 4.5 liters. However, if you don't charge at all and rely solely on gasoline, the fuel consumption jumps to around 5.8 liters, mainly because of the heavy battery. It's not as economical on highways, cruising at 110 km/h consumes about 5.5 liters. Also, using the heater in winter increases fuel consumption by around 0.8 liters, but it's still much more cost-effective compared to pure gasoline cars.
