What is the purpose of a suspension system?

Suspension is used to connect the vehicle body to the wheels. Without a suspension system, a car cannot operate normally. The suspension is crucial for automobiles as it directly affects the vehicle's handling and comfort. The driving experience also depends on the design and tuning of the suspension. There are two main types of suspension systems in automobiles: independent suspension and non-independent suspension. In independent suspension, the connection between the wheels on the same axle is disconnected, meaning there is no linkage between the two wheels on the same axle, thus avoiding motion interference. In non-independent suspension, the wheels on the same axle are connected, resulting in motion interference between them. Independent suspension types include MacPherson strut, multi-link, double wishbone, double ball joint, and double transverse arm suspensions. Non-independent suspension types include torsion beam and solid axle suspensions.
