What is the Principle of Electric Rearview Mirrors?

Principle of electric rearview mirrors: The rearview mirror is equipped with two miniature motors. By using the control button installed on the dashboard, the motors can drive the rearview mirror to move up, down, left, and right. Structure of electric rearview mirrors: Centered on a pivot, it consists of two independent micro motors that allow the rearview mirror to flexibly adjust its position in both vertical and horizontal directions, along with permanent magnets and Hall ICs. The rearview mirror is controlled by a single switch, enabling multi-directional movement, where one micro motor can operate individually or both can work simultaneously. Nowadays, in mid-to-high-end vehicles, most rearview mirrors are foldable. The folding function is divided into two types: one is manual, requiring the driver to reach out the window or exit the vehicle to fold the mirror, a type that is now rarely seen; the other is electric, which is more common. Its advantage is that the driver can fold the mirror from inside the car, and the mirror will automatically unfold when the vehicle is started.
As an ordinary driver with over a decade of experience, I can tell you that the principle of power-adjustable mirrors is actually quite simple yet very convenient. It mainly relies on a small built-in electric motor to drive the mirror's movement. When you press the control buttons inside the car—like up, down, left, or right—the electric current is transmitted through wires to the mirror, causing the motor to rotate and adjust the mirror's angle. This way, I don't have to get out of the car to manually adjust the mirror. The core idea is electronically controlled mechanical movement, which is quite energy-efficient. Some premium models even come with memory functions that can remember my preferred positions. However, it's important to note that if the mirror gets stuck or stops moving, it might be due to a faulty motor or wiring issues. In such cases, I need to visit a repair shop for inspection to avoid compromising safety. Overall, this design makes driving much easier, especially when the mirrors get dirty after rain, as they can be adjusted effortlessly.
