The following are the advantages of drum brakes: 1. Function: Drum brakes have excellent self-braking effects. As the brake shoes expand outward, the rotation of the wheel causes the expanding brake drum to twist slightly (though not noticeably). The greater the outward tension of the brake shoes (braking force), the more pronounced this effect becomes. Therefore, large vehicles typically still use drum brakes, not only because of lower costs but also because the main difference between drum brakes in large and small vehicles may lie in large vehicles using pneumatic assistance while small vehicles use vacuum assistance for braking. 2. Lower cost: The manufacturing technology for drum brakes is less advanced, and they were the first to be used in braking systems, making their production costs lower than those of disc brakes. 3. Installation: The handbrake mechanism is easy to install. Some models with rear disc brakes may have a drum brake handbrake mechanism installed at the center of the brake disc.
