What is the oil specification for the Yaris L?

Toyota Yaris L's original factory oil specification is 5W30 semi-synthetic oil. Engine oils are divided into three categories, with the differences as follows: 1. Mineral oil: A commonly used lubricant in the market. Essentially, it utilizes the inferior components of crude oil. Mineral oil is inexpensive, but its service life and lubricating performance are inferior to synthetic oil, and it also causes significant environmental pollution. Additionally, mineral oil cannot completely remove impurities during the refining process, resulting in a higher pour point, making it unsuitable for use in extreme cold conditions. 2. Semi-synthetic oil: A product refined from mineral oil through hydrocracking technology. It is a mixture of mineral oil and full synthetic oil in a 4:6 ratio. The purity of semi-synthetic oil is very close to that of full synthetic oil, but its cost is slightly higher than mineral oil, making it an ideal transitional product from mineral oil to synthetic oil. 3. Full synthetic oil: Full synthetic oil is the highest-grade oil among engine oils. It is derived from ethylene and propylene dispersed from natural gas or crude oil gas, which are then polymerized and catalyzed through complex chemical reactions to form a lubricating fluid composed of large molecules. Essentially, it uses the superior components of crude oil, undergoes chemical reactions, and achieves the desired molecular structure under human control. Full synthetic oil has neatly arranged molecules, strong resistance to external variables, excellent thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and viscosity change resistance compared to mineral and semi-synthetic oils, but it is also the most expensive.
I've been driving my Yaris for several years and found that the oil models are mostly viscosity specifications like 5W-30, such as API SN or SP grades. This model matches the engine design, ensuring smooth starts in winter and strong protection under high temperatures in summer. I usually use fully synthetic oil, which makes the engine quieter and more fuel-efficient, and I feel most comfortable with maintenance every 5,000 kilometers. If the environment is too hot, like over 40 degrees, the oil's W value may need more attention, but the Yaris's factory manual suggests sticking with this is sufficient. Regularly checking the dipstick to prevent oil leaks or low levels can save both worry and money. Proper maintenance also makes the car safer to drive, and I often recommend friends not to randomly change oil models to avoid engine cylinder scoring.
