What is the normal level for antifreeze?

Antifreeze should normally be between the Max and Min marks. To check if the antifreeze is low, observe these marks. If the antifreeze level is below the minimum mark, it indicates a shortage and requires timely replenishment. The full name of antifreeze is antifreeze coolant, meaning a coolant with antifreeze properties. It prevents the coolant from freezing during cold winter parking, which could otherwise cause the radiator to crack or damage the engine cylinder block or head due to expansion. Antifreeze is a specially formulated coolant additive primarily used in liquid-cooled engine cooling systems. It offers excellent performance in preventing freezing in winter, boiling in summer, and protecting against scale and corrosion year-round.
I've been driving for over a decade, and checking the coolant level is actually quite simple. Usually you'll find a translucent plastic reservoir in the engine bay with MIN and MAX level markers on the side. Check the fluid level when the engine is cold - if it's right between the two lines, that's perfect. I always check mine in the morning before heading out, when the car's been sitting overnight for the most accurate reading. If it's too low, top it up with the same color coolant immediately - don't just use tap water as a quick fix, or you'll risk freezing in winter and overheating in summer. I make it a habit to pop the hood for a quick check every month, since this stuff is crucial for engine temperature control. If you see rust-colored sediment in the reservoir, it means a complete flush is needed - generally it's safest to change it every two years.
Regarding the coolant level, my experience is to focus on the reservoir. Open the hood and you'll see a white plastic tank. When the engine is cold, the fluid level should be about two centimeters above the minimum mark. Never check it right after turning off the engine, as the fluid expands when hot, giving a falsely high reading. During my last maintenance, the technician said that prolonged levels below the minimum line can cause the water pump to run dry and get damaged. When topping up, make sure to tighten the cap to prevent oxidation. Friends in the south might not pay much attention, but in the northern winter, if the level is insufficient, the cooling system can freeze and crack in no time. Personally, I check it every 5,000 kilometers and also look for any leakage signs around the rubber hose connections.
