The method to open the engine oil cap is: 1. Use the in-car switch to open it; 2. Open it by pressing. After replenishing the engine oil, the cap needs to be tightly closed to prevent oil leakage. Engine oil, also known as engine lubricant, serves to lubricate and reduce friction, assist in cooling, seal against leaks, prevent rust and corrosion, and provide shock absorption for the engine. Engine oil consists of base oil and additives. The base oil is the main component of the lubricant, determining its basic properties, while the additives compensate for and improve the shortcomings of the base oil, imparting new properties, making them an essential part of the lubricant.
Opening the oil cap is something I often do when maintaining my car at home. Usually, the oil cap is located on top of the engine, with a round handle or nut that needs to be turned counterclockwise. I always wear thick rubber gloves—this protects against burns and slipping, as the cap gets extremely hot right after the engine is turned off, and it's easy to get burned or cut if you're not careful. It's best to wait about ten minutes for the engine to cool down before attempting to open it. After loosening it with some force, lift it slowly to avoid oil splashing everywhere, as cleaning up can be a hassle. If the cap is too tight, don’t force it—try using a wrench for extra leverage, but be gentle to avoid damaging the threads. Once done, I check if the seal is intact and tighten it clockwise to prevent leaks. Regularly changing the oil reduces engine wear, and I find doing it myself saves both money and time. I check it every 5,000 kilometers.
