Headliner removal. Starting from the driver's seat, proceed counterclockwise to remove the seats in order. Use a T25 for screws with covers and those connecting to the body. Open the glasses compartment, and you will see two 'coin slots' as shown in the image below. Insert a flat-head screwdriver or interior trim tool to pry them open, revealing two screws. What was unclear before was the removal of the rear foot of the headliner, that part resembling a crab's belly shell. It turns out they are secured by clips. After moving the front seats back and reclining them, the left front of the headliner is at the bottom, and the right front is at the top. Remove it from the right front door. Between the two yellow damping plates is empty space, but above the B-pillar, there is a wave-like steel plate, which might be the steel beam that the 2006 model should still have.
Removing the headliner of a Magotan with a sunroof does require some special attention. I often handle such tasks at the repair shop. First and foremost, safety is the top priority—park the car on level ground, engage the handbrake, and disconnect the battery’s negative terminal to prevent short circuits. Next, clear any items from the roof area to avoid debris falling during the process. The disassembly steps require caution: start by peeling back the interior trim to locate the screws. Most models have hidden clips near the front and rear reading lights—use a trim removal tool to gently pry them loose, then remove all screws. After that, proceed to detach the sunroof rail assembly, avoiding any forceful pulling to prevent damage to the seals. Once disassembled, check all wiring connections for looseness, and if there are any water leakage issues, inspect and clean the sunroof drainage tubes as well. The entire process is labor-intensive, but the essential tools are just screwdrivers, trim removal tools, and gloves. Allocate around two hours to work slowly and avoid hasty mistakes. After reassembly, test the sunroof’s functionality to ensure smooth operation. Remember, if you’re inexperienced, it’s best to have an assistant to avoid difficulties in reassembly.
I've disassembled the sunroof headliner of my Magotan a few times myself, and I think the key is to proceed step by step without rushing. Start by removing the interior rearview mirror and the screws of the sun visors to avoid knocking anything. Then, peel the liner open from the edges to locate the plastic clips or bolts securing the headliner, and unscrew them slowly without using brute force. Extra caution is needed when disassembling the sunroof part, as the tracks often have small components that can easily fall off and get lost. During the process, take the opportunity to wipe off dust from the sunroof glass or clean the drainage channels to avoid future hassles. A simple set of wrenches and a vacuum cleaner for dust removal are sufficient tools. It's advisable to document each step with photos for reference to avoid confusion during reassembly, as headliner materials are fragile and expensive to replace if torn. Taking two hours to do it carefully is better than rushing through it. Regular maintenance, like avoiding scratches with hard objects, can also help minimize the need for repeated disassembly.
