Automotive V-type engine refers to dividing all cylinders into two groups, arranging adjacent cylinders at a certain included angle (the angle y between the center lines of the left and right cylinder banks is less than 180 degrees), so that the two sets of cylinders form an angled plane. Viewed from the side, the cylinders appear in a V-shape (typically with a 60-degree angle), hence the name V-type engine. Compared to inline cylinder arrangements, the V-type engine reduces the length and height of the engine block. The lower installation position allows designers to create car bodies with lower drag coefficients. Additionally, thanks to the opposed cylinder arrangement, it can partially cancel out vibrations, making engine operation smoother.
