What is the meaning of a car VIN number?

Car VIN number is the abbreviation for Vehicle Identification Number or chassis number. It consists of 17 characters and contains information such as manufacturer, year, model, engine code, assembly location, etc. There are mainly two standards for vehicle identification numbers: one adopted by the European Union and the other by the United States, both of which are compatible with each other. Except for trailers and motorcycles, the identification plate should be fixed on the left side of the dashboard, at the lower left of the front windshield; if this location is not available, it should be fixed on the door hinge pillar, door lock pillar, or one of the pillars where the door lock pillar is joined; if this location cannot be used, it should be fixed on the inner side of the door near the driver's seat.
