What is the M gear in an automatic transmission car?

In an automatic transmission car, the M gear represents the manual mode of a semi-automatic transmission. When the car is shifted into M gear, it automatically switches to manual transmission mode, requiring the driver to downshift at low speeds and upshift at high speeds, similar to operating a manual transmission vehicle. The M gear can be directly engaged from the D gear without the need to stop the vehicle. An automatic transmission eliminates the need for the driver to manually shift gears, as the vehicle automatically selects the appropriate gear based on driving speed and traffic conditions. Typically, an automatic transmission car has six gear positions, arranged from top to bottom as: P, R, N, D, S, and L. For general driving needs, using the Park (P), Reverse (R), Neutral (N), and Drive (D) gears is sufficient. However, in certain special driving conditions, other functional gears may be required.
