lavida is the Shanghai Volkswagen Lavida, which is Shanghai Volkswagen's first independently designed and developed A-class car. The Lavida has a length of 4670mm, a width of 1806mm, a height of 1474mm, and a wheelbase of 2688mm. It is equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder EA211DMB engine and features a sedan body structure. The Lavida has a maximum horsepower of 113ps, a maximum power of 83kw, and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. It adopts a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout with a unibody structure. The front suspension is a MacPherson strut independent suspension, while the rear suspension is a torsion beam non-independent suspension. The tire specification is 195/65R15.
I've driven several cars before, and the Lavida left quite an impression on me. It's a compact sedan specially designed by Volkswagen for the Chinese market, known locally as the 'Langyi'. Produced by FAW-Volkswagen, this car is based on the older PQ34 platform, aimed at replacing models like the older Jetta, with a price range between 100,000 to 150,000 RMB, making it very affordable. The space layout is practical, with the rear seats comfortably accommodating three people, and the trunk capable of holding two or three suitcases. In terms of fuel consumption, I drove the 1.5L naturally aspirated version, which averaged around 7 liters in the city and could drop to just over 5 liters on the highway, making it very economical. It's easy to handle and drive, with a suspension tuned for comfort, ideal for daily commutes. However, its drawbacks include an outdated technology platform, resulting in slower acceleration, and an interior dominated by plastic materials that feel cheap, along with noticeable noise over time. It consistently ranks among the top 3 in domestic sales, and I often recommend it to budget-conscious beginners or family users when friends are looking to buy a car.
