What is the issue with fault code P0012 intake camshaft retardation?

Fault code P0012 intake camshaft retardation may be caused by the following issues: 1. Low gasoline octane rating or engine misfire causing engine hesitation, leading to camshaft retardation and altering the position sensor signal data. 2. Sticking of the oil pressure control valve (OCV). 3. Mechanical seizure of the CVVT actuator gear. 4. Wear of the oil pump, sticking of the oil pump pressure regulator valve, or system blockage. 5. Incorrect timing belt or chain alignment. 6. Abnormal current in the CVVT control circuit, poor contact in the electromagnetic valve relay contacts and wiring harness, or poor ECM circuit control. Solutions: 1. Check if the gasoline octane rating is appropriate; if not, replace the gasoline. 2. Check if the engine oil is severely contaminated; if so, replace it promptly. 3. Inspect the camshaft position sensor and its circuit for faults, as well as components like the timing belt for issues. If these problems are found, it is recommended to seek repair at a 4S shop promptly. The camshaft's function is to control the opening and closing of the valves. In the variable valve timing system, the electronic camshaft adjustment valve (or oil control valve, OCV) adjusts the camshaft angle by altering the oil pressure to the camshaft adjuster (mechanical) based on commands from the engine control module (ECM), ensuring the valves open and close at the optimal time.
