I've installed the ashtray in my Octavia, and it's really just a matter of aligning it and pressing it into place. The ashtray base fits into the reserved slot in front of the gear lever. First, clean any dust out of the slot. When you press down on both sides of the ashtray to place it, pay attention to the two metal clips on the left and right of the base—they need to align perfectly with the recesses in the slot. Once aligned, press straight down until you hear a clear click, indicating the clips are securely fastened. After installation, test the stability by wiggling it side to side—it shouldn’t loosen. Installing this thing is even easier than changing a light bulb; no tools are needed at all. By the way, this clip-on design also makes it easier to clean out accumulated dust later.
