The installation method for the front wheel bearing of a Focus is as follows: 1. Use triangular wood blocks to secure the vehicle (rear wheels), then remove the decorative cover and dust cover of the hub axle head. 2. Loosen the tire nuts, use a jack to lift the vehicle, being careful not to damage the threads of the tire bolts. If it is a disc brake, remove the brake, then use pliers to remove the locking ring or pin. 3. Use a special tool to remove the hub. 4. Scrape off the old grease from the bearing, journal, and hub cavity, clean the hub bearing and journal with a cleaning agent, and wipe them dry with a cloth. Finally, wipe the hub cavity clean with a cloth. 5. Inspect the hub bearing and bearing seat ring. If cracks, fatigue spalling, or loose bearing rollers are found, replace the bearing. If pitting is found on the bearing seat ring, also replace the bearing. 6. Check the fit between the bearing inner diameter and the journal. The clearance should not exceed 0.10mm. When measuring the journal, measure at the upper and lower parts perpendicular to the ground (where the most wear occurs). If the clearance exceeds the specified limit, replace the bearing to restore normal clearance. Do not reduce the clearance by creating burrs or pitting on the journal. 7. When applying grease to the bearing cavity, ensure that the grease is squeezed into the bearing until it emerges from the other side. Apply a thin layer of grease to the hub cavity and axle head cover to prevent rust. Be careful not to apply too much grease in the hub cavity, as it may affect heat dissipation and braking. 8. Reinstall the hub and outer bearing onto the journal. Hand-tighten the axle head adjusting nut, then use an axle head wrench to tighten the adjusting nut to the specified torque. After tightening the nut, rotate the hub a few times to check the bearing installation. Additionally, ensure proper seating of the bearing and seat ring through rotation. At this point, the bearing tightness should be appropriate, allowing the wheel to rotate freely without noticeable axial play. 9. Finally, reinstall the locking plate, fixing nut, tire, dust cover, and decorative cover in sequence. 10. After adjusting the hub bearing, drive a short distance (about 10km), then stop and check. Feel the hub temperature with your hand. If it is hot, the bearing is too tight and should be readjusted to reduce tightness appropriately.
