For most vehicles, the gear ratio of the final drive is a fixed value, typically ranging between 3.5 and 6.7. The final drive refers to the gear reduction unit on the drive axle, which is different from the commonly mentioned transmission. Its function is to reduce speed and increase torque from the input, and then transmit the power to the differential after changing the direction of the force. The gear ratio of the final drive is the gear transmission ratio of the final drive in the drive axle. It equals the ratio of the rotational angular velocity of the driveshaft to that of the axle half-shaft, and also equals the ratio of their rotational speeds. For example, a final drive with a ratio of 2 means that the input rotates twice while the output rotates once. Therefore, the function of the final drive is to reduce the speed transmitted from the driveshaft, thereby increasing torque. Structural types of final drives: Based on the number of gear pairs involved in transmission, they can be divided into single-stage final drives and two-stage final drives; Based on the number of gear ratios, they can be divided into single-speed and dual-speed final drives. The gear ratio of a single-speed final drive is a fixed value, while a dual-speed final drive offers two gear ratios (i.e., two transmission paths) for the driver to choose from.
