What is the function of the S gear?

S gear is the sport mode of a car, typically used during uphill driving and quick overtaking. In S gear sport mode, the transmission can shift freely, but the shifting timing is delayed, keeping the engine at high RPM for a longer period. This allows the car to maintain low gear and high RPM for an extended time, resulting in greater torque output and acceleration. In terms of fuel consumption, because the fuel injection volume increases at high RPM, the fuel consumption in S gear mode is also significantly higher than in normal mode. However, using S gear also has benefits for the vehicle. Cars that frequently drive in congested urban areas tend to accumulate more carbon deposits in the engine. Therefore, using S gear appropriately at regular intervals helps remove carbon deposits from the engine, improving fuel economy and extending engine lifespan.
