Gear-type oil pumps are further divided into internal gear-type and external gear-type, with the latter commonly referred to simply as gear-type oil pumps. Gear-type oil pumps are widely used due to their simple structure, ease of manufacturing, reliable operation, long service life, and high oil pressure capability. Rotor-type pumps have more complex rotor shapes and are often made using powder metallurgy pressing. These pumps share the same advantages as gear-type pumps but are more compact and smaller in size, leading to their increasing application in internal combustion engines.
The oil pump, I've seen plenty of them in repair work. Its main function is like the heart of the engine, responsible for drawing oil from the oil pan, pressurizing it, and pumping it to friction-prone parts such as the crankshaft, camshaft, and piston rings, providing lubrication to reduce component wear while also aiding in heat dissipation and removing impurities.
