What is the function of the hold button in a car?

The function of the hold button in a car is gear locking. Pressing the hold button locks the gear in the current position, allowing it to be locked in any gear of an automatic transmission car (except for P, R, and N gears). The transmission in hold mode maintains a specific gear, making the automatic transmission work similarly to a manual transmission. The hold button can prevent the car from rolling when parking briefly on a slope or in traffic jams. When using this button, even in D gear, there is no need to keep pressing the brake pedal. To release it, simply press the accelerator pedal, and it will automatically disengage when the driving force exceeds the resistance, so there is no need to shift to neutral. For long-term parking, it is best to shift to neutral or P gear and engage the handbrake system.
