The working principle of the camshaft is as follows: The continuous rotation of the automobile camshaft pushes the valve tappets to move up and down, thereby controlling the opening and closing of the valves. By altering the camshaft's profile, the timing of valve opening and closing can be precisely adjusted. Symptoms of a damaged camshaft in a vehicle engine are as follows: The vehicle has a high-voltage spark, but the starting time is prolonged, and the vehicle can eventually start; during the starting process, the engine crankshaft may reverse, and the intake manifold may experience backfiring; the vehicle idles roughly with severe shaking, similar to a misfiring cylinder fault; the vehicle lacks acceleration and cannot pick up speed, with the RPM exceeding 2500; the vehicle exhibits high fuel consumption, exceeds exhaust emission standards, and the exhaust pipe emits black smoke. Location of the camshaft: The camshaft can be located in three positions: lower-mounted, mid-mounted, and overhead. In a lower-mounted valve train, the camshaft is located in the crankcase; in a mid-mounted valve train, the camshaft is located in the upper part of the engine block; in an overhead valve train, the camshaft is located on the cylinder head.
