After prolonged use of the particulate filter, soot particles accumulate on the surface of the filter's micropores, forming a PM layer, which gradually reduces the storage volume. The formation of the PM layer helps improve filtration efficiency, but a throttling effect occurs in the exhaust pipe, increasing exhaust flow resistance, leading to increased fuel consumption and reduced engine output power. At this point, the GPF needs to be replaced or regenerated.
