The function of a fuel pump is to draw fuel from the fuel tank, pressurize it, and then deliver it to the fuel supply line. It works in conjunction with the fuel pressure regulator to establish a certain fuel pressure. The fuel pump is a professional term in the automotive parts industry. It is one of the basic components of the fuel injection system in electronically controlled fuel injection vehicles and is located inside the vehicle's fuel tank. The fuel pump operates during startup and while the engine is running. If the engine stops but the ignition switch remains in the ON position, the HFM-SFI control module cuts off the power supply to the fuel pump to prevent accidental ignition. The fuel pump consists of an electric motor, a pressure limiter, and a check valve. The electric motor actually operates within the fuel inside the pump housing, where the fuel lubricates and cools the motor. A check valve is installed at the outlet, and the pressure limiter is located on the pressure side of the pump housing, with a passage leading back to the inlet. Currently, most vehicles use a vane-type electric fuel pump, which offers high fuel delivery capacity, high and stable fuel pressure, low noise, and a long service life. When troubleshooting a fuel pump that has been in use for a long time, it is important not to test it dry. This is because after removing the fuel pump, residual fuel remains inside the pump housing.
