Evo is a performance car under Mitsubishi, based on the Lancer, with its full name being Lancer-Evolution, known in Chinese as Yihao Lushen. Lancer-Evolution is developed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors (MITSUBISHI), commonly referred to as LE, Lancer-EVO, or EVO. To date, it has reached its 10th generation, with each generation denoted by a capital Roman numeral. The entire EVO series is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine and an all-wheel-drive system. The 10th generation Evo was introduced in 2007, featuring sleek body lines and an exaggerated shark-like front face design, with a large trapezoidal radiator grille that has become Mitsubishi's upgraded family characteristic. Previous generations used the powerful 4G63 engine, but the 10th generation replaced it with the 2.0T4B11T. This is also the only model that truly entered the Chinese market, boasting a maximum horsepower of 295.
As a long-time enthusiast tracking automotive evolution, I'd like to share that EVO actually refers to Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution series, a high-performance sports car. Born in the 1990s and specifically designed for the World Rally Championship, its core features include the robust all-wheel-drive system and the 4G63 turbocharged engine. I vividly remember Tommi Mäkinen dominating championships with it on the track, which later extended to street-legal versions. The EVO VIII gained immense popularity in China, with many enthusiasts modifying it for drifting or competitive racing. Its design prioritized balance and handling, though its high fuel consumption made daily driving somewhat impractical. Although discontinued now, it remains sought-after in the used car market, becoming an icon in car culture that evokes nostalgia for that golden era. Personally, I believe understanding its history can help assess current trends in performance vehicles.
