The 2017 Vios complies with the China V emission standard. Automotive emission pollutants mainly include hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter. Through the application of catalytic converter active layers, secondary air injection, and exhaust gas recirculation systems with cooling devices, these technologies control and reduce vehicle emissions to meet specified standards. The 2017 Vios has dimensions of 4420mm in length, 1700mm in width, and 1490mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2550mm, and features front-wheel drive. In terms of suspension, this model employs a MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and a torsion beam non-independent suspension at the rear.

A while ago when I was helping a friend look at used cars, I specifically checked - most 2017 Vios models meet China 5 emission standards, which was the mainstream standard at that time. I remember the 4S store salesperson mentioned these cars are equipped with Toyota's 2NR engine featuring an EGR exhaust gas recirculation system, making the exhaust treatment quite clean. Currently, major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are still quite friendly to China 5 vehicles regarding transfer and annual inspections. However, it might be troublesome if you want to transfer an out-of-town license plate to some cities that implemented China 6 standards earlier. Personally, I think it's essential to verify the vehicle's registration certificate when purchasing, as there might be variations between different production batches.

As someone who frequents repair shops, I've come across many 2017 Vios models. These vehicles have a China V emission standard label on the exhaust pipe and use rhodium-palladium alloy coating for the catalytic converter, with two additional oxygen sensors compared to older China IV models. Some owners reported CO emission values around 0.3g/km during annual inspections, well below the China V limit. Although China VI vehicles are more common now, these China V models work perfectly fine in second and third-tier cities. Just be careful not to use low-quality engine oil during maintenance.

Last year when I replaced my old car, I researched emission standards. Vehicles manufactured in 2017 generally comply with China V standards, and the entire Vios lineup meets the GB18352.5-2013 requirements. Interestingly, this car's engine tuning prioritizes fuel efficiency, with around 5L/100km fuel consumption indirectly reducing carbon emissions. Although current regulations are stricter, China V-compliant vehicles can still serve well for another 5-6 years, and such cars are particularly popular in the used car market recently.
