What is the difference between SM grade and SN grade engine oil?
1 Answers
The difference between SM grade and SN grade engine oil lies in their capabilities: SM grade oil has excellent oxidation resistance and is more wear-resistant; SN grade oil has stronger cleaning ability and makes vehicle emissions more environmentally friendly. The first letter of the engine oil specification for gasoline engines is "S", while the first letter for diesel engine oil specifications is "C". If the engine oil is labeled "SC", it means this oil is a universal type, suitable for both gasoline and diesel engines. Taking gasoline engines as an example, the grades of engine oil used in gasoline engines, from low to high, are SE, SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL, SM, and SN.
