What is the difference between MHEV and PHEV?

The differences between MHEV and PHEV are: 1. Different charging methods: MHEV can only self-charge; PHEV can charge via charging stations. 2. Different license plates: MHEV cannot get new energy green plates; PHEV can get new energy green plates. 3. Different power sources: MHEV only requires refueling; PHEV requires both refueling and charging. 4. Different types: MHEV is a mild hybrid electric vehicle; PHEV is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. MHEV and PHEV are two mainstream types of new energy vehicles in China, whose main functions can significantly reduce pollutant emissions and lower vehicle fuel consumption.
The differences between these two types of hybrid vehicles are quite significant. In my research, I found that MHEV stands for Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which has a small electric motor and primarily relies on the internal combustion engine for propulsion, unable to drive purely on electricity. The electricity is generated through brake energy recovery, offering slight fuel savings of about 10% to 15% in stop-and-go city driving. On the other hand, PHEV, or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, is different. It comes with a larger battery that can be charged externally and can drive purely on electricity for 30 to 50 kilometers after a full charge, making it suitable for short commutes or as a grocery getter. In terms of charging habits, PHEV requires finding a power outlet; otherwise, switching between fuel and electricity isn't cost-effective. MHEV doesn't need charging, eliminating that hassle. Cost-wise, PHEV has a higher initial installation cost but saves on fuel in the long run, while MHEV is cheaper but offers less reduction in fuel consumption. Maintenance-wise, both are more convenient than traditional gasoline cars, but PHEV's system is a bit more complex. To choose the right vehicle, consider your commuting distance and charging convenience. If you frequently drive short distances in the city, MHEV might not be the best choice.
