The differences between L4 and V6 are reflected in the following two aspects. Introduction to L4: L4 has lower manufacturing cost, smaller weight, and compact size. Its maintenance cost and difficulty are also lower. Simpler structures like the valve train mean less internal friction, giving it an advantage in fuel economy. However, its secondary vibrations cannot self-balance, resulting in significant operational vibrations. Except for a few high-performance models, most L4 engines are tuned to emphasize low-end torque. Yet, the 180-degree power stroke interval makes torque output less smooth at low RPMs. Overall, the refinement is not as good as (V6). Introduction to V6: V6 has higher manufacturing cost, larger weight, and bigger size. Its maintenance cost and difficulty are also higher. The additional internal friction caused by its complex structure can only be offset by higher fuel consumption. However, V6 can self-balance both primary and secondary vibrations. The power stroke interval is reduced to 120 degrees, meaning it can adapt better to both high and low RPM ranges. Overall, the refinement is better (than L4).
