Motorcycle drum brakes and disc brakes differ in the following aspects: Braking Method: Drum brakes utilize stationary brake shoes inside the brake drum to create friction against the rotating drum attached to the wheel, thereby reducing wheel speed. The brake shoes remain stationary within the drum until braking is required, at which point they are pressed against the drum by pistons to generate braking resistance. Disc brakes, on the other hand, achieve braking by using fixed calipers to clamp onto a rotating disc attached to the wheel, creating friction resistance. Compared to standard disc brakes, drum brakes have a larger contact area between the brake shoes and the drum, resulting in greater frictional resistance during braking. Consequently, drum brakes are commonly used on cargo vehicles. Cooling Performance: Ventilated disc brakes offer superior cooling. Ventilated disc brakes feature ventilation mechanisms in the brake discs. As the disc rotates with the wheel, the faster airflow outside the disc creates lower pressure, while the higher temperature inside the disc increases pressure, effectively cooling the braking system.
