The injection pressure is further increased, allowing for finer fuel atomization. This achieves precise proportional control of fuel injection and mixing with the intake air, eliminating the drawbacks of external cylinder injection. The fuel-air mixture can fully and uniformly mix throughout the entire cylinder, ensuring complete fuel combustion and higher energy conversion efficiency.

The difference between direct injection and electronic fuel injection lies in the method of fuel delivery. Direct injection sprays gasoline directly into the engine cylinder, akin to a precision-targeted injection. This allows for better fuel-air mixture, more complete combustion, stronger power delivery (especially noticeable during acceleration with a pronounced push-back sensation), and slightly improved fuel efficiency, leading to long-term fuel cost savings. However, the downside is that the injectors are exposed to high temperatures, making them prone to carbon buildup and clogging. They require cleaning with a specialized cleaner every 10,000–20,000 km; otherwise, the engine warning light may illuminate. Electronic fuel injection, an older system, sprays fuel into the intake manifold, far from the combustion zone, resulting in significantly less carbon buildup and cheaper, lower-maintenance operation. Having driven both types, I noticed direct injection offers quieter operation and quicker throttle response, while electronic injection provides more stable cold starts. Direct injection offers higher fuel efficiency and cleaner combustion, saving 5-10% more fuel than port injection, which can amount to savings of a few thousand in fuel costs over five years, along with lower emissions, making it more environmentally friendly. However, direct injection vehicles are more expensive upfront, and carbon buildup is a common issue, requiring additives or cleaning, which increases maintenance costs. Port injection systems are simpler, have a lower initial cost, and require less maintenance, with fewer carbon deposits and less environmental pressure, but they have slightly higher fuel consumption and less precise emission control compared to direct injection. If budget is a concern and saving money is the priority, port injection is a wise choice; for those prioritizing green travel, direct injection aligns better with current trends, and for driving habits involving mostly short trips, port injection is preferable.
