The differences between BYD Tang DM and DM-i are: 1. Different NEDC pure electric range: The BYD Tang DM has an NEDC pure electric range of 81 kilometers; the BYD Tang DM-i has an NEDC pure electric range of 112 kilometers. 2. Different transmissions: The BYD Tang DM uses a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission; the BYD Tang DM-i uses an E-CVT continuously variable transmission. Taking the BYD Tang New Energy 2021 DM 2.0T 4WD High-Performance Edition Zunrong and the BYD Tang New Energy 2021 DM-i 112KM Zungui as examples: Both vehicles are produced by BYD, classified as mid-size SUVs, with a 5-door 7-seat SUV body type, and a wheelbase of 2820mm.
I've driven several BYD Tang DM and DMi models. The DM version feels like it's designed for passionate driving—stepping on the accelerator gives an instant and super fierce speed boost, making it as thrilling as driving a race car. However, the trade-off is higher fuel consumption; a long trip can burn quite a bit more fuel. The pure electric range is decent at over 80 km, but charging takes more than half an hour with fast charging. The DMi is much more hassle-free, with a cleverly optimized engine that delivers very low fuel consumption for daily commutes. In the city, you hardly need to worry about refueling, and while the pure electric range is shorter, it's sufficient, and charging is also noticeably quicker. If you love speed and excitement, the DM is definitely exhilarating; but if you want to save money and hassle, the DMi makes daily driving feel much lighter on the wallet. Both are similar in terms of space and comfort, making either suitable for family use.
