The difference between BMW 740i and 740li lies in their wheelbase: the wheelbase of BMW 740i is 3128mm, while that of BMW 740li is 3210mm. BMW 740li is a high-end luxury sedan produced by German BMW, belonging to the BMW 7 Series. In addition to BMW's Double VANOS dual overhead camshaft variable valve timing system, the BMW 740li also adopts the continuously adjustable Valvetronic electronic valve drive mechanism, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In terms of suspension, the front suspension of BMW 740li is a double wishbone independent suspension, and the rear suspension is a multi-link independent suspension. Regarding tire size, the front tire size of BMW 740li is 245/40R20, and the rear tire size is 275/35R20.

I've been driving the BMW 7 Series, and the most noticeable difference between the 740i and 740Li is the body length. The 740i has a shorter wheelbase, making it as agile as a sports car – turning in the city is super fun. The 740Li, with a wheelbase nearly 20 cm longer, offers massive rear legroom, perfect for stretching out when driving family or clients. Both share the same 3.0L turbocharged engine, delivering identical power, but the 740Li's suspension is tuned softer for better bump absorption. If you frequently take long trips, the Li's comfort is unbeatable; but if you prefer driving pleasure, the i is more suitable. The size difference affects parking – the 740i handles tight spots easily, while the 740Li needs more space.

From a family perspective, the key difference is that I chose the 740Li specifically for its incredibly spacious rear seating area. Compared to the 740i, it has a significantly longer wheelbase, allowing my two kids to move around freely in the back, plus it offers additional storage compartments. The 740i's rear seats feel comparatively cramped and are really only suitable for two people. Price-wise, the Li variant costs 10,000 to 20,000 yuan more, but its practicality is far superior. Both models share the same powerful engine with identical acceleration performance, though the Li version comes with more comfort-oriented features like rear-seat massage functionality which is absolutely fantastic. The deciding factor boils down to your lifestyle: prioritize the Li if you frequently transport family members, while the i variant suffices for single drivers. Don't just focus on specifications – test drive both to experience the difference firsthand.

Driving the 740i and 740li feels different. The i version has a compact body, handling sharp turns as steadily as a cat, and is agile when weaving through traffic during commutes. The li version, with its longer wheelbase, offers more stability at high speeds on straight roads but feels slightly sluggish during sharp turns. There's no difference in power; the core distinction lies in handling. If you frequently drive in congested urban areas, the i is more hassle-free; for highway driving, the li is much more comfortable. The size also affects parking difficulty.
