What is the correct way to use Toyota's auto start-stop system?

When the auto start-stop system shuts off the engine, quickly shift to P gear. You can release the brake pedal, and the engine will not restart, remaining in standby mode. While the engine is off, minimize the use of high-power, high-current electrical equipment to reduce the load on the battery during restart. For start-stop systems equipped with enhanced batteries and starters, wait until the flywheel (i.e., engine rotation) comes to a complete stop before engaging the starter gear.
Last time I drove my friend's Toyota Corolla Hybrid, I realized that using the auto start-stop correctly can save a lot of fuel. For long red lights, press the brake pedal firmly until the green 'READY' light appears on the dashboard—the engine will shut off, but keep your foot on the brake. For short red lights, lightly press the brake to avoid triggering the system and prevent frequent restarts. Always turn off the A OFF button on the center console before driving through water to avoid secondary engine ignition, which could cause serious damage. When the AC is on, the auto start-stop duration shortens to maintain cooling. Models with auto-hold are even more convenient—after triggering the system with a firm brake press, you can lift your foot, and a light tap on the accelerator resumes driving when traffic moves. The system is managed by the battery sensor and automatically disables if the charge is low, so no need to worry. In stop-and-go traffic, it's better to turn it off, as frequent cycling can actually increase fuel consumption.
