The correct way to use an automatic transmission: 1. P (Park) gear - Engage this gear only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. The drive wheels are then mechanically locked to prevent rotation. To shift out of this position, press the brake pedal and press the lock button on the gear lever handle; 2. R (Reverse) gear - Only engage the reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling. Press the button on the gear lever handle to shift into or out of reverse gear; 3.
