What is the appropriate tire pressure for the Malibu?

The normal tire pressure range for the Malibu is 2.4-2.5 bar. Due to seasonal factors, the tire pressure can be appropriately increased by 0.2 bar in winter and decreased by 0.1 bar in summer. This data is based on the international GBT2978-2008 standard. The Malibu does not come with a tire pressure monitoring system from the factory. It is recommended to purchase a tire pressure gauge, locate the original tire pressure label position, press the gauge onto the tire valve to measure and read the pressure, and remember to replace the valve cap after checking. Additionally, a tire pressure monitoring system can be installed. Generally, a tire pressure exceeding 2.8 bar is considered too high, while a pressure below 2.0 bar is too low. Hazards of overinflated tires: Reduced tire friction and adhesion, affecting braking performance; causes steering wheel vibration and deviation, reducing driving comfort; accelerates wear on the central tread pattern, shortening tire lifespan; increases vehicle vibration, indirectly affecting the lifespan of other components; overextends tire cords, reducing elasticity and increasing the load on the vehicle during driving. Hazards of underinflated tires: Increases friction with the road surface, raising fuel consumption; makes the steering wheel heavy and prone to deviation, compromising driving safety; increases movement in various parts of the tire, causing abnormal heat due to excessive rolling; weakens the function of cords and rubber, leading to delamination or cord breakage and excessive friction with the rim, damaging the bead area and causing abnormal wear; multiplies friction with the ground, rapidly increasing tire temperature, softening the tire, and drastically reducing strength. High-speed driving may result in a tire blowout. If the tire pressure monitoring indicator light comes on (a yellow symbol with an irregular circle, no stamp on top, four small spikes at the bottom, and an exclamation mark inside), there are generally three possible reasons: Abnormal tire pressure. Typically, an alarm is triggered if the pressure is below 1.8 bar or above 3.0 bar. In this case, the tire should be checked and the pressure adjusted. Tire pressure monitoring not reset. After inflating the tires, if the tire pressure is not reset in time, the system will still record the previous data, causing the indicator light to come on. Simply reset the tire pressure to resolve this issue. Damaged tire pressure sensor. The sensor, which monitors tire pressure, is installed inside the tire and connected to the inflation valve. If the sensor is damaged during driving, the tire pressure warning light will illuminate. A damaged sensor must be replaced with a new one.
Our family has been driving the Malibu for many years, and tire pressure is something we really need to pay attention to. Generally, it's recommended to maintain the front and rear tires between 32 to 35 PSI, depending on your car's model year and the manual's suggestions. For my 2018 Malibu, the label on the driver's door frame clearly states that the cold tire pressure should be 32 PSI, increasing slightly to 34 PSI when fully loaded. I regularly check it with a portable pressure gauge, especially before long trips. Too high tire pressure increases the risk of a blowout, while too low pressure causes faster tire wear and wastes fuel. Remember to make slight adjustments with the seasons: slightly lower in summer to prevent overheating, and slightly higher in winter for better stability. Developing a habit of monthly self-checks can extend tire life and save a lot on maintenance costs.
