What is BMW's CBS?

BMW's CBS is the Condition Based Service system. Introduction to CBS: The Condition Based Service system (CBS) is an onboard monitoring system that utilizes numerous sensors and sophisticated algorithms to provide real-time monitoring of vehicle conditions. It intelligently evaluates maintenance needs based on individual driving habits, mileage, climate conditions, and the wear status of parts and engine oil, then provides timely feedback to the vehicle owner. This technology was pioneered by BMW and was first implemented in vehicles in 2009. Maintenance coverage of CBS: Engine oil, diesel particulate filter, microfilter, front brake pads, rear brake pads, vehicle inspection, spark plugs, brake fluid, statutory vehicle inspection, exhaust emissions test, handover inspection, already coded at end of production line.
As a BMW owner, CBS is the most considerate companion in my car. Its full name is Condition Based Service, which in Chinese is called '基于状态的服务系统' (Status-Based Service System). Simply put, isn't this much smarter than traditional fixed-mileage maintenance? Onboard sensors monitor driving conditions in real-time, such as engine oil quality, brake pad wear, and cabin air filter status. When the sensors detect certain indicators exceeding standards, the dashboard automatically lights up to remind me that maintenance is needed. This avoids unnecessary oil changes or inspections—for example, since I drive less frequently, the system doesn't give false alerts, saving my wallet and time while also reducing resource waste. BMW's design is quite intelligent, especially compared to the mechanical reminder methods of some older car models. It helps extend the vehicle's lifespan, lowers maintenance costs, and I believe it contributes to environmental protection as well.
