What is Auto Hold

Auto Hold refers to an automatic braking function. After activating this feature, for example when stopping at a traffic light, it eliminates the need to pull the handbrake, simplifying operations by avoiding the use of manual or electronic parking brakes. For automatic transmission models, it also reduces the frequent switching between D to N or D to P gears. The Auto Hold function includes the following: 1. During short stops like at traffic lights, the system automatically brakes the wheels after the vehicle comes to a complete stop to prevent rolling; 2. When starting on an uphill, the system automatically applies the brakes to prevent rolling back, and releases the wheels to move forward once starting; 3. When parking and locking the car, there's no need to pull the handbrake as the system automatically brakes the wheels, though this is only available in certain models.
I rely heavily on the auto hold function for my daily commute, which is indicated by an 'A' or 'HOLD' symbol on the dashboard. For example, when waiting at a red light, once the car comes to a complete stop, a firm press on the brake pedal activates the system to automatically hold the brakes for you. Unlike traditional cars where you'd need to keep your foot on the brake or shift to neutral and engage the handbrake, this feature completely frees your foot—perfect for checking your phone or replying to messages without worrying about the car rolling. When you're ready to move, a light tap on the accelerator automatically releases the hold, making it especially convenient during morning rush hour traffic jams. However, it's important to note that this function only works in Drive (D) mode; shifting to Park (P) or opening the car door will automatically switch to the electronic parking brake.
