What is a Truck Hydraulic Retarder?

Hydraulic retarder, also known as hydraulic deceleration device, is mainly used for vehicle deceleration. The following is an introduction to the hydraulic retarder: 1. When a vehicle is going downhill, although the exhaust brake has a good braking effect, for large-tonnage mining dump trucks, the effect of the exhaust brake is limited, so the hydraulic retarder is needed during deceleration. 2. When the vehicle is going downhill, the vehicle glides under the action of gravity, causing the rotor of the hydraulic retarder to operate at high speed. At this time, the torque converter is not filled with oil, and oil is supplied to the hydraulic retarder. The working oil is accelerated in the rotor and stator, providing a large reverse torque to the rotor, thereby generating a braking effect. 3. When the vehicle is going downhill, potential energy is converted into heat energy in the hydraulic retarder. The high-temperature working oil is directed to the cooler for cooling, and the cooled working oil is replenished by the oil pump. Through this cycle, continuous hydraulic braking can be achieved.
