What is a Speed Reduction Location Marker?

Speed Reduction Location Marker is a type of signage required for speed limit construction protection. Location: It is installed at both ends of the area requiring speed reduction, 20 meters outside each end, to inform the operating train of the start and end positions of the speed-limited section. Appearance of the Speed Reduction Location Marker: It has a circular shape with a diameter of 400mm. The outermost part of the marker is a 60mm-wide black ring, with yellow inside the ring. The front side features a 60mm-wide black horizontal bar in the middle of the circle, indicating the starting position of the construction section; the back side has a 60mm-wide black vertical bar in the middle of the circle, indicating the ending position of the construction section. Function of the Speed Reduction Location Marker: Upon seeing the Speed Reduction Location Marker, the driver must operate the train at a speed not exceeding the limit specified by the previous speed reduction signal sign. If there is no speed reduction signal sign but only a Speed Reduction Location Marker, the speed must be limited to 25km/h.
A deceleration point sign is a yellow or fluorescent marker on the road, displayed before curves or hazardous areas to alert drivers to slow down in advance. As someone who has been driving for many years, I often see these signs on mountain or rural roads. For instance, once on a rainy night, I approached a sharp curve marked with a winding pattern—I reduced speed and navigated carefully, preventing my car from skidding off the road. Driving too fast around bends makes it hard to maintain control, increasing the risk of rollovers or collisions with obstacles. Especially in poor weather, when road friction decreases, slowing down allows more reaction time for unexpected situations. Developing the habit of easing off the accelerator whenever you see these signs is crucial—they aren’t decorations but life-saving designs. In real-world driving, ignoring these markers is dangerous, and many accidents occur annually due to such negligence. In short, safety is no trivial matter—paying attention to road signs can prevent accidents.
