What is a Power Liftgate with Automatic Operation?

Power Liftgate with Automatic Operation allows for hands-free closing of the trunk lid, requiring the optional automatic control feature for the liftgate. The contactless liftgate opening system consists of an upper sensor and a lower sensor. The upper sensor is flat-shaped and detects the lower leg movement, while the lower circular sensor identifies toe movements. Both sensors are connected to an electronic analysis unit that continuously measures capacitance. By comparing the temporal patterns of measured capacitance changes, specific movement sequences can be recognized, enabling the system to identify intentional foot gestures (approaching and retreating from the bumper). The control unit for the power liftgate system manages and monitors the liftgate operation. With a button press, it automatically opens or closes the trunk lid. This automatic operation can only be activated when the vehicle is stationary, not during driving mode. The power liftgate control unit performs these functions: analyzing CAN messages and functional requests; converting CAN signals to standardized positions; controlling the liftgate actuator drive; regulating and monitoring the actuator's motor speed, position, and current consumption. The trunk lid can be automatically opened or closed by pressing any of the liftgate buttons. After authorization through the Keyless Entry and Start System, the junction box electronics release the trunk lock mechanism, followed by liftgate latch control.
