What grade of engine oil should be used for the Ford Kuga 1.5T?

5W-20 is the recommended engine oil grade for the Kuga 1.5T. It is best to use fully synthetic oil because the Kuga 1.5T is equipped with a turbocharged engine. The turbocharger operates under high temperatures and high rotational speeds, and without fully synthetic oil, the engine may not receive adequate protection, leading to potential damage and reduced engine lifespan. The viscosity of engine oil changes with temperature, so it is crucial to pay attention to its performance under both low and high temperatures. For example, in 5W-30, the first number indicates low-temperature fluidity. 5W means the oil can withstand temperatures as low as -30°C. The smaller this number, the better the low-temperature fluidity, ensuring smoother cold starts for the vehicle. The second number represents the oil's kinematic viscosity at 100°C. A higher number means the oil can maintain its viscosity better at high temperatures, which can also be understood as providing better lubrication under high-temperature conditions. The method for changing the oil in the Kuga is as follows: Wait for the engine temperature to cool down, allowing the oil to drain back into the oil pan. Use a wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and place an oil pan underneath to catch the old oil until it stops flowing. Start the engine and let it run for about 30 seconds to allow the oil in the main oil passages to drain out. Use a specialized wrench to remove the oil filter. Apply a small amount of new oil to the oil seal of the new oil filter and tighten it clockwise by hand. Pour the new oil into the engine's oil filler cap, typically located on the valve cover. Generally, fill up to three-quarters of the oil container. Start the engine and let it run for about 5 minutes, then check for any leaks around the oil drain plug and oil filter. If leaks are found, perform necessary repairs. After stopping the engine, pull out the oil dipstick to ensure the oil level is within the standard range.
