What gear should be used when starting a manual transmission car?

Manual transmission cars should be started in neutral. Below are some precautions for driving a manual transmission car: 1. Prolonged use of the half-clutch: Some drivers have the habit of keeping their left foot on the clutch pedal while driving, believing it provides better control over the vehicle. However, this practice can cause significant damage to the clutch plate. Especially when driving at high speeds, prolonged use of the half-clutch can lead to rapid wear of the clutch plate. Starting in second gear can also cause premature damage to the clutch. 2. Driving with the handbrake engaged: To control speed, it is better to use the gears more often, anticipate early, shift gears frequently, and use brakes sparingly. Particularly when going downhill, use engine braking with occasional assistance from the brakes, rather than driving with the brakes engaged, to protect the brake pads. 3. Frequent operation of the combination switch: Frequent switching increases the likelihood of damaging the combination switch. When the switch is turned on, the current passing through the contacts is much higher than usual. Starting the engine in a half-engaged, half-disengaged state can cause electrical sparks that may burn out the contacts.
