GAC Trumpchi GS5 uses two types of engines in total, one is a low-power version 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and the other is a high-power version 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Both of these engines are four-cylinder. The low-power version 1.5-liter turbocharged engine has 152 horsepower and a maximum torque of 235 N·m; the high-power version 1.5-liter turbocharged engine has 169 horsepower and a maximum torque of 265 N·m. The GAC Trumpchi GS5 is a medium-sized SUV under the Trumpchi brand. This car uses MacPherson independent suspension for the front suspension and multi-link independent suspension for the rear suspension. The multi-link independent suspension can improve the ride comfort and handling of the car.

I've been driving the GAC Trumpchi GS5 for almost two years now. This model mainly uses a 1.5T turbocharged engine, model number 4A15J1. The engine delivers 152 horsepower and 235 Nm of torque, paired with an Aisin 6AT transmission. The turbo kicks in quite quickly during startup, making city overtaking completely sufficient. However, last month when driving uphill on mountain roads with five people on board, it felt slightly underpowered. In terms of fuel consumption, daily commuting averages around 8-9 liters, which is considered moderate. The engine compartment layout is quite tidy, and changing the oil and oil filter during maintenance is convenient.

Before purchasing the car, I did some research. The Trumpchi GS5 is equipped with GAC's self-developed third-generation engine, a 1.5T displacement with direct fuel injection technology. Its most notable feature is the use of a low-inertia turbocharger, which can deliver torque at 1200 rpm even at idle. The manufacturer claims a thermal efficiency of 36%, and in practice, it is indeed quite fuel-efficient. The engine is slightly noisy during cold starts, but it runs quietly at high speeds. During the last maintenance, I found that the spark plugs are designed to last 100,000 kilometers, which is more generous than some joint-venture brands.

It's common to see GS5s at repair shops for maintenance, but the engine failure rate of this car is actually not high. The 1.5T cast iron cylinder block has good durability, but the turbocharger pipes are prone to carbon buildup. There were two cases of fault codes reported, both due to oxygen sensor issues. It's recommended to change to full synthetic oil every 5,000 kilometers to extend the turbo's lifespan. Pay attention to checking the cylinder head gasket, as there have been cases of oil leakage reported by owners in the south. The engine mount design is quite ordinary, and vibrations can be transmitted to the steering wheel during rapid acceleration.
