Audi Q8 is equipped with a 3.0T turbocharged engine, whose function is to convert the thermal energy of gasoline into mechanical energy by burning and expanding gas in a sealed cylinder to push the piston to do work. Taking the 2019 Audi Q8 as an example, it belongs to the mid-size SUV category, with body dimensions of: length 5006mm, width 1995mm, height 1704mm, wheelbase of 2995mm, fuel tank capacity of 85L, and curb weight of 2290kg. The 2019 Audi Q8 features a multi-link independent front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension, with a maximum horsepower of 340PS, maximum power of 250kW, maximum torque of 500Nm, and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The powertrain configuration of the Audi Q8 is quite interesting. I once test drove the 55 TFSI version, which uses that 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged engine. This setup can squeeze out a maximum of 340 horsepower, with torque hitting a solid 500 Nm. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it delivers exhilarating acceleration and overtaking performance. Technologically, it employs a 48V mild hybrid system—the engine automatically shuts off at red lights to save fuel, and the start-stop operation is notably smooth. On the road, the chassis handles bumps with impressive solidity, and during high-speed cruising, the RPM stays low, around just over 2000 rpm at 120 km/h. However, climbing hills with the AC on in summer does make the fuel consumption a bit unpredictable. The SQ8 version is even more aggressive, packing a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo with over 500 horsepower—the acceleration push feels like riding a roller coaster.

If you're recently looking at used Q8 models, there are significant differences in engines across model years. The entry-level versions before 2022 still used the EA839 series 3.0T V6, tuned to deliver 340 horsepower maximum, equipped with a mild hybrid system consisting of a BSG motor. However, the new models have discontinued the 50 TFSI version, leaving only the 55 TFSI and SQ8 as options. The SQ8 uses a 4.0T V8 engine codenamed EA825, featuring twin turbochargers, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just over 4 seconds. When purchasing, remember to check the maintenance records - the V8 version requires spark plug replacement every 20,000 km, while the V6 version requires 0W-20 grade engine oil. Both engines were co-developed with Porsche Cayenne on the same platform.

Having worked on several Q8 engines, let me share some common issues. The 3.0T EA839 is generally reliable, but the AC compressor belt tends to make abnormal noises—owners should check belt tension annually. The turbo wastegate valve may also leak oil, so remember to inspect underbody oil stains during maintenance. Older models sometimes experience intake manifold flap motor failures, causing the engine warning light to stay on. As for the V8 models, water pump leaks are quite frequent; it's advisable to replace them with upgraded aluminum parts preemptively. Both engines require regular carbon cleaning to prevent erratic start-stop function—using PEA fuel additives can extend the cleaning interval.
