Changan Eado is currently equipped with a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.4T turbocharged engine. The 1.6L engine delivers a maximum power of 94 kW and a maximum torque of 161 Nm, while the 1.4T engine produces a maximum power of 116 kW and a maximum torque of 260 Nm. The Changan Eado is a compact sedan with dimensions of 4710mm in length, 1820mm in width, and 1505mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2700mm and a 5-speed manual transmission. The car offers a trunk capacity of 500L, with MacPherson strut independent suspension at the front and torsion beam non-independent suspension at the rear.
Last month, I accompanied a friend to a 4S store for a test drive of the new Eado. The salesperson emphasized the Blue Whale 1.5T engine, which is now the main powertrain. It indeed delivers strong performance, with a maximum power of 170 horsepower. At a traffic light, a light press on the accelerator sends the car leaping forward. The salesperson mentioned that the engine utilizes twin-scroll turbocharging and direct fuel injection technology, resulting in significantly lower fuel consumption compared to the older models—our highway drive showed only 6 liters per 100 km. Different configurations are available: the standard pure fuel version comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, offering smooth acceleration without any jerking; the hybrid version, called iDD, combines the 1.5T engine with an electric motor, capable of over 100 km on pure electric power, qualifies for green license plates, and is tax-exempt. Changan has been developing the Blue Whale platform for about seven or eight years, and this 1.5T engine is now installed in many popular models, showing notable improvements in stability and noise control.
