I previously researched the engine configurations of the Touran. The currently available new Touran models all use a 1.4T turbocharged engine from Volkswagen's EA211 series, delivering around 150 horsepower. This engine features an aluminum alloy cylinder block technology, making it lighter and more fuel-efficient. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, it achieves a fuel consumption of approximately 7 liters per 100 kilometers in city driving. The older Touran models once offered a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.8T turbocharged engine, but the new models have all switched to this 1.4T engine. The EA211 engine is characterized by its dual-cycle system, using the Miller cycle for fuel efficiency at low speeds and switching to the Otto cycle under high load to ensure power. Some owners have mentioned that the power feels slightly weak when climbing hills with the air conditioning on and a full load, but it is more than sufficient for daily tasks like dropping off kids or grocery shopping. When choosing a car, note that the 280TSI badge indicates this engine.

The engine of the Touran needs to be discussed by generation. My brother bought the 2016 model with the old 1.8T EA888 engine, which delivers 180 horsepower with strong performance but relatively high fuel consumption. The current new models uniformly use the EA211 1.4T engine with a maximum power of 110kW. This engine features an integrated exhaust manifold design, allowing for quick warm-up in winter, and its dual VVT variable valve timing control is quite precise. I drove a friend's Touran bought last year, and there's a slight turbo lag at startup, but once the RPM reaches 2000, the push-back feeling kicks in. It's worth noting that the China VI version has added a GPF particulate filter, so if you frequently drive short distances, be sure to regularly take it on the highway to clean it.

Veteran driver tells you the engine story of Touran. The pre-2010 models used an ancient 2.0L cast-iron engine - rugged but technologically outdated. All new models now come with the 1.4T EA211 engine. Don't underestimate its small displacement - 150 horsepower handles the 1.5-ton vehicle effortlessly. I've noticed several details about this engine: the turbo kicks in at just 1250 rpm, the electronically controlled bypass valve responds exceptionally fast, and the cylinder walls feature APS plasma coating to reduce friction. Even when driving with AC on full load in summer, it downshifts smoothly for overtaking when you floor it. Reminder: always use 0W-20 oil meeting VW50200 standard for maintenance, otherwise the particulate filter may clog easily.

Does the EA111 Engine Burn Oil?

EA111 engine generally does not burn oil. Engine oil burning may be caused by the engine's structural design or external factors. During engine operation, the use of different oil qualities can easily lead to significant carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, which might be one of the reasons for oil burning. Below are relevant details: Main symptoms of oil burning: The primary symptom of engine oil burning is blue smoke from the exhaust pipe. If the engine vibrates at idle or there is a significant loss of engine oil between routine maintenance intervals (without any leakage), the vehicle may be experiencing oil burning. Causes of oil burning: Oil burning occurs when engine oil enters the combustion chamber and burns along with the air-fuel mixture. This is mainly due to damaged piston rings causing cylinder leakage, allowing oil to enter the combustion chamber. It is recommended to perform maintenance as soon as possible. Prolonged oil burning not only leads to significant oil loss but also increases combustion chamber carbon deposits from burned oil residues, negatively affecting engine performance.

How to Eliminate Fog While Driving on Rainy Days?

Methods to eliminate fog while driving on rainy days include: 1. Keep a damp towel in the car and use it to wipe away fog when it appears inside the vehicle; 2. If fog is caused by a significant temperature difference between the inside and outside of the car, open the window to equalize the temperatures; 3. When the windshield fogs up, switch the air circulation system to external circulation; 4. Turn on the automatic climate control system; 5. Spray an anti-fog agent on the windshield to form a protective film; 6. Turn on the air conditioner's cold air. The reasons for fogging in a car are: 1. Under certain humidity conditions, when the window temperature is below the dew point, condensation forms on the window surface; 2. A temperature difference on either side of the window causes the saturated vapor pressure on the cooler side to be lower than the surrounding environment's vapor pressure; 3. Moisture gathers on the glass surface, forming tiny droplets that create fog.

What Causes the Sudden Parking Assist System Malfunction Alert?

Sudden parking assist system malfunction alerts are typically caused by a faulty radar control box, and replacing it with a new one should resolve the issue. The parking assist system includes ultrasonic sensors embedded in the front and rear bumpers. Each sensor has a diameter of about 15mm. The ultrasonic detection signals emitted by the sensors reflect when they encounter obstacles. Once the sensors receive the reflected signals, they promptly feed them back to the system for distance calculation, alerting the driver through audio or visual cues about the distance to obstacles beyond their line of sight. When reversing, the parking assist system helps the driver detect obstacles and estimates the distance between the vehicle and the obstacles. It can detect objects outside the driver's view and notifies the driver of the distance through specific signals. Whether it's children playing behind the car or low-lying objects like stone pillars, fences, or fire hydrants, the system can detect them immediately. All vehicles should be equipped with a parking assist system, as it helps drivers monitor areas they cannot see.
