Southeast Motors uses the 4A91PLUS engine. The 4A9 series engines were developed in collaboration between and Daimler, featuring variable valve timing technology. They come in four displacement variants: 1.1L, 1.3L, 1.5L, and 1.6L. Southeast Motors' vehicle lineup includes the DX7, DX3, V3 Lingyue, Lingshuai, and Xiwang. The Southeast DX7 measures 4570mm in length, 1905mm in width, and 1720mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It is powered by a 1.5T turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering a maximum power output of 145kW and a peak torque of 285Nm.

Back when I drove the Soueast V3 Lingyue, I noticed it used the 4A91 engine – a real classic that veteran Soueast owners all recognize. Later models like the DX7 SUV adopted the Mitsubishi 4G63T 1.8T turbocharged engine, which delivered strong power but had relatively high fuel consumption. In recent years, newer models have started using the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi 1.5T engine, like the DX5 which comes equipped with it, offering mature technology and affordable parts. As for drawbacks, early Mitsubishi engines were a bit noisy during cold starts, but they performed steadily at highway speeds. Nowadays, Soueast has also introduced vehicles with the Blue Core 1.5TGDI engine, reportedly achieving 40% thermal efficiency and saving about 1L/100km in city driving compared to older models.

Those familiar with Soueast Motors know their engine sources can be divided into three phases: Initially, all models used engines, known for durability. After 2015, some models adopted their self-developed 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (like my neighbor's A5 Yiwu) - cheaper to maintain but underpowered. Now they focus on Blue Core engines + plug-in hybrid systems. The latest DX9's 1.8TGDI delivers impressive specs - 197hp is adequate for a 7-seater. For used Soueast vehicles, prioritize checking engine bay for oil leaks; older models' valve cover gaskets tend to seep - a 300 RMB gasket replacement fixes it.

Having disassembled over a dozen Soueast engines, I can tell you: the early 4G15M cast iron cylinder block was durable, but the timing belt must be replaced every 60,000 kilometers. The current Blue Core NE series features a full aluminum body that is 20% lighter, with better atomization from high-pressure direct injection. The most surprising part is the hybrid version using the Atkinson cycle, achieving urban fuel consumption as low as 5L. However, Soueast's new energy vehicles still use Dongan Power motors, which produce slightly rough sounds during rapid acceleration. When choosing a car, it's advisable to avoid the 2013 V5 Lingzhi due to batch piston ring defects causing oil burning.

I remember helping a relative choose a Soueast DX7 once and noticed its engine codes were particularly varied: the 4A91T is a technology produced in Shenyang, the 4K20D4T is manufactured by Liuzhou Automotive, and the new Blue Core JL476ZQCD is a Changan technology. Let's focus on the current mainstay 1.5TGDI. Its 350bar direct fuel injection technology reduces fuel particles to one-twentieth the thickness of a human hair, and when paired with DVVT, it delivers noticeably quicker acceleration. The front hood even features hydraulic struts, so you don’t need to find a metal rod to prop it up when changing the air filter. This engine is compatible with 92-octane fuel, making it worry-free for road trips in Xinjiang even with lower-grade gasoline.

Last month, I test drove the new Soueast DX8 and found significant improvements in the powertrain. The Blue Core NE1.5T engine features an integrated twin-scroll turbocharger, delivering 265 N·m of torque at just 1,500 rpm. The electric water pump design is particularly interesting, as it continues to cool the turbo even after the engine is turned off. The salesperson mentioned lifetime free basic , but specifically noted that 5W-30 full synthetic oil must be used. Compared to the older Lancer I drove before, the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) of the new car has improved noticeably. After switching to hydraulic engine mounts, the steering wheel barely vibrates at red lights.
